This week is "color week", in tribute to Guy Deutscher’s book Through the Language Glass, which I enjoyed very much. In the book, Guy discusses the relationship of language, specifically the words we have to describe colors, and our perception of color.
In not-so-ancient times (only a few thousand years ago), and in existing primitive/isolated cultures there are/were less words to describe color. Some cultures have only black, white and red. They would group all the colors you see above into those three categories. Other cultures had yellow and/or green. Blue is usually one of the last colors to make an appearance, and actually doesn't appear in the Bible at all! Incredible.
