Dr. Martens Baby Booties Pattern (Crochet)

Because I love Doc Martens shoes so much and since I have no idea where to get them in Israel, I decided to live vicariously through my baby daughter and make some for her. Unfortunately, there were no patterns available, so I decided to write up my original pattern.

Gauge: I used worsted weight yarn and a 4mm crochet hook to fit a 5 month old baby.
Materials: brown & yellow yarn for sole, black yarn for laces, red (or other color) yarn for shoe.

Abbreviations:
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
sl st - slip stitch
dc - double crochet

With brown yarn ch 12.
row 1: 2 hdc into 3rd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next 8 ch, 4 hdc in next ch, continue on the other side of the foundation chain - 1 hdc in next 8 ch, join with sl st.
row 2: ch 3, 1 dc in same sp, 2dc in next 4 st, 1 dc in next 5 st, 2 dc in next 7 st, 1 dc in next 5 st, 2 dc in next st, join with ss.
row 3: ch 3, 1 dc in same sp, 2dc in next 8 st, 1 dc in next 8 st, 2 dc in next 10 st, 1 dc in next 8 st, 2 dc in next st, join with sl st.
row 4: dc in back loop only around.
row 5: Switch to yellow. sl st all around (to get the signature Dr. Martens yellow stitch).
row 6: Switch to red (or color of your choice). sl st in brown back loop only all around.
row 7 (top of shoe): ch 1, 5 sc.
row 8: 2 ss (on side of shoe), ch 1, turn. Skip 2 sl st, 5 sc.
Repeat row 8 10 times, join to side of shoe with ss.
row 19 (cuff): ch 3, dc all around, join with sl st. If you want the cuff to be smaller (as I did) you can decrease a few stitches in the middle of this row, at the back of the shoe.
repeat row 19 twice (or until you decide the bootie is tall enough).
With a small amount of black yarn, embroider the laces on.

Make two and enjoy :)
